Picture of the week: Volcan Parinacota

During my semester abroad in Chile, I took a weekend trip to the northernmost part of the country with a couple of friends.  We hired a tour guide to take us to Lago Chungara, a lake on the Altiplano near the Bolivian border.  Near Lago Chungara is Volcan Parinacota, a majestic snow-capped volcano.  Surrounded by a dramatic landscape, we ran into more llamas and alpacas than people in this remote part of the world.

    • Thanks! It is still active, and people climb it. I did not climb it though since it takes a couple of days and the idea of sitting in a warm hostel drinking mate seemed much more appealing at the time :).
